Save Our Shores NO DRILLING by Oceana

Who We Are

Save Our Shores began as a grassroots movement to protect the Monterey Bay from offshore drilling in 1978 and then helped secure Sanctuary status for the Bay, which was granted by an act of Congress in 1992 with leadership from Secretary Leon Panetta and Congressman Sam Farr. For the last four decades, we have continuously fostered protection and conservation of our Sanctuary through awareness, advocacy and action. Through our program and policy work we continue to build the next generations of ocean stewards, advocate for marine ecosystem protections, and provide opportunities for our community to engage in coastal conservation.
