When 1,391 Volunteers Join Forces
October 26, 2022A Call for Education Program Volunteers
November 28, 2022On Friday, November 7th, we held our Waves and Wildlife photo exhibition and awards ceremony at the Monterey Bay Sanctuary Exploration Center. This free community event celebrated the photos captured in Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) within and around the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary.
Photographers, community members, and Save Our Shores supporters gathered to view this year’s submissions, the exhibits, and enjoy each other’s company with light refreshments donated by Shanty Shack Brewing.
During the presentation, event-goers received updates regarding the MPA Decadal Management Review – a process that occurs every ten years to ensure we’re honoring our word in protecting these special marine areas.
Attendees also got an update on the Chumash Heritage National Marine Sanctuary designation process, which will bridge the Monterey Bay and the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuaries. The designation would extend protection along the California Coast from Point Arena in Mendocino County to the southernmost island in the Channel Island chain in Santa Barbara County.
If you missed the event, not to worry! The exhibit panels highlighting some of the beautiful photography will be displayed at the Exploration Center through the end of November. We hope you will check it out!
We extend a sincere THANK YOU to all of our participants and a ‘congratulations’ to this year’s contest winners!
