Action Needed! – An Effort to Ban the Butt

As we are wrapping up another incredible Earth Month (our 46th Earth Month to be exact), we are grateful for the community that came out to join us – rain or shine – in April! Over 500 lbs of trash and 50 lbs of recyclables have been collected this month so far.

As we head into May, we are turning our attention to our upcoming Speaker Series: Ban the Butt.  After decades of picking up discarded cigarette butt litter around the Monterey Bay, we are working to tackle this issue head-on and inspire support for local policy changes.

Between 2013 – 2023, SOS has collected 439,358 cigarette butts from beaches, open spaces, and public areas! We are partnering up with other local nonprofits, government officials, local scientists, and public health experts to keep the conversation moving forward.

Now’s a great time to for you to get involved in the conversation and take part on Sunday May 19th, at the Seymour Discovery Center – the event is free with registration! There will be light breakfast available, educational presentations, and a lively discussion with panelists and attendees.
