A Call for Education Program Volunteers
November 28, 2022Celebrating 45 Years
April 28, 2023Save Our Shores has recently canceled our cleanups at Scotts Creek and Davenport Landing due to safety concerns for our volunteers and participants. The confluence of the atmospheric river storms and high tides have created extremely strong swells and dangerous conditions. We have postponed our cleanups until the storms have passed, however, there are actions our community can take to ensure the health of the ocean!
Beach cleanups are essential to ensuring the health of the coastline before the litter makes its way into the ocean, but the land-to-sea connection is also vitally important. During strong rains, any litter or debris on the roads will get swept into storm drains, ultimately making their way into the ocean.
To ensure less litter and trash end up along coastlines and marine ecosystems during storms, we recommend picking up litter and items from around your home and neighborhood to keep them out of the storm drains.
We will be ready to resume our group-led cleanup efforts soon when the conditions are deemed safe and the timing is appropriate, based on emergency response. Our first responders are out there working hard, let’s support them and each other by coming together for our community!
