#SaveOurSand from the Cemex Lapis Lustre Dredge Pound

The California Coastal Commission is meeting on July 13th, and we need your letters of support to close the Cemex Sand Mine. The Commission will be considering an agreement reached with CEMEX to shut down the mine in three years, restore the property and transfer the land to an agency to preserve it as open space. You can read more about the agreement in this article.

Make sure you

Send your letters by 5:00pm on July 7.

Include “Agenda item 22” in your email subject or on the top of your letter.

Ask that your letter be added to the staff report.

What to include in your letter

  • That you support the agreement with Cemex.
  • Your appreciation to the commission for taking up such an important issue.
  • What the erosion of our beach and coastline means to you.
  • Point out that there is overwhelming scientific evidence that the mine is causing coastal erosion. Cemex, despite years of knowing of the community’s concerns, has not provided one report proving otherwise.
