How and when did you first learn about the climate crisis?
It came to my attention my freshmen year the more I learned and did research on the topic.
What compelled you to organize an action and/or begin speaking about the climate crisis?
I knew it was a problem with severe impacts on the earth so when I saw that my friend Verania was organizing a walkout to spread awareness I got on board and contributed my part to help fight the cause.
Had you participated in direct action (demonstrations, strikes, rallies, etc.) before engaging in the climate movement?
How have your peers responded when you have asked them to participate in a demonstration with you?
Most of my peers have agreed to come out and support.
Have your family and friends been supportive? Why or why not?
My friends have been very supportive because it’s been an issue that we’ve learned and done research about in school. We know the drastic impact this issue is having on our planet.
Have teacher(s) and/or administrator(s) at your school been supportive of your organizing and leadership efforts? How, why, or why not?
Yes, a lot of teachers have been more than great. Teachers like Mr Jones, Ms Grant, Ms Ciandro etc have been very supportive because they also want to see a change for the best so we could have an opportunity to build better future.
Please describe any worries you had while planning a past action or speech and/or worries you have about planning future actions.
Worries we had were just about attendance and participation issues.
What things might you do differently if you decided to organize another action or speak at another event?
Perhaps we could take a different approach in spreading awareness among our peers other than in a walkout which took a lot of energy to plan. I wonder if there is a more efficient method.
Which of the following might be helpful contributions from an adult advisory circle?
Arranging time, place, stage, sound, etc. for after school rallies, etc., Securing necessary permits, Creating community partnerships, Writing press releases, Issuing press releases, Arranging meetings with elected officials, etc.
