Central Coast Sanctuary Alliance

Central Coast Sanctuary Alliance

In 2011, Save Our Shores banded together more than 90 environmental organizations and businesses to create the Central Coast Sanctuary Alliance. The Alliance has one mission: to ban single-use plastic bags in each and every municipality and county surrounding the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary and now, with the California Statewide Plastic Bag Ban Victory,

By passing bans on single-use plastic bags, the Central Coast Sanctuary Alliance will help protect hundreds of species of marine animals from suffocation or strangulation caused by plastic-bag litter, provide a cleaner environment for residents and visitors to enjoy, save local businesses money by discontinuing their use of plastic bags, and lower cleanup costs incurred by local governments burdened by plastic-bag litter.

Bans on single-use plastic bags will serve as an economic support system for our flourishing coastal industries, such as tourism and recreation, while providing protections for our fisheries, marine animals and coastal environment from the ever-growing problem of plastic pollution in our oceans.

The County of Santa Clara, the County of Marin, the City of Santa Monica, the City of San Jose, and the County of Los Angeles have all approved single-use bag bans.
