Annual Coast Cleanup Day

san-benito-hs-hollister-jasmine-zach-rhiannon-kyle-bradAnnual Coastal Cleanup Day took place on September 21st, 2013 from 9am – 12pm.

It was a huge success!

3,064 volunteers collected 17,147 pounds of trash and recycling from our coast!

Thank you to all of our volunteers and sponsors for making this Annual Coastal Cleanup Day great!

Next Annual Coastal Cleanup Day is September 20th, 2014! See you there!

Coastal Cleanup Day is the largest volunteer event on the planet. Volunteers in over 100 countries around the world come together with one goal: preventing hundreds of thousands of pounds of pollution from trashing our oceans and harming marine wildlife.

Site Captains lead the way to clean oceans:

091711_beachcleanup_2350_001The success of Annual Coastal Cleanup Day depends on the leadership of our Site Captains. You’ll attend a brief training session in early September, and then just arrive early to sign-in your volunteers! Whether you are a regular SOS volunteer, or this is your very first time, participating in Coastal Cleanup Day is exciting and easy. Contact volunteer@saveourshores.org.

What to expect as a volunteer:

Volunteers arrive at their cleanup site at 9am ready to get to work!
Pre-registration (see links above) is encouraged, but is not mandatory. Bringing your own waiver form will also save you time. You may also pre-register and sign a waiver form once you arrive at the cleanup.

Please Note: For river cleanup sites, close-toed shoes, rubber boots, and heavy/garden gloves will help keep you clean and dry.

At the cleanup: Your Site Captain will sign you in, distribute cleanup supplies, and provide a safety briefing. We encourageall volunteers to Bring Your Own reusable bags, buckets, gloves, and reusable water bottle to lower the carbon footprint of this event.
