Private & School Cleanups

Save Our Shores offers private beach cleanups to any group, including civic, business or school groups. An SOS representative will meet each group for their cleanup in order to provide an educational presentation on marine debris and to distribute beach cleanup supplies.

School Cleanups are often accompanied with a more in-depth presentation whether down on the beach right before the cleanup or in the classroom prior to the cleanup day. Read more about our plastic pollution curriculum and school programs.

It’s easy to participate: All your group has to do is show up! A Save Our Shores’ representative will meet your group at the beach with all cleanup supplies. Ask your cleanup coordinator for suggestions on ways to minimize the impact of your group’s picnic or snack by using biodegradable wares or reusables instead of disposable plastics.

Locations for all private cleanups can be chosen by the group as long as the beach is publicly accessible and is within our geographic scope: Santa Cruz, coastal San Mateo, or Monterey Counties.

To schedule a private cleanup, groups must contact cleanup@saveourshores.org at least two weeks prior to the desired cleanup date. You will receive confirmation for your cleanup as well as beach cleanup waiver forms to be distributed to each member of your group (participants under 18 need a parent/guardian signature on their waiver). These will be collected by SOS the day of your cleanup.

Cleanup Kit:

For those of you that get the last minute urge to clean a beach on your own or with a group, Save Our Shores is happy to supply a Beach Cleanup Kit which will contain all the necessities for a successful cleanup.

Kit contents include: Trash and Recycle bags, latex gloves, data cards, marine debris information, a scale to weigh debris, and trash pickers. Save Our Shores will coordinate garbage pickup.

All participants must sign a waiver form and kit contents must be returned within one week of your cleanup. SOS reserves the right to request a deposit to ensure the safe return of all cleanup kit contents.

To request a Cleanup Kit contact cleanup@saveourshores.org at least one week before your cleanup.
