We’re co-hosting a book launch party to celebrate the release of SOS board member Dr. Wallace J. Nichols’ new book, “Blue Mind,” this Friday, July 25 at 7 p.m. at Bookshop Santa Cruz—and you’re invited!
Nichols is an acclaimed marine biologist and conservationist, who has served on our board of directors since 2009. In “Blue Mind,” he explores the ways in which water makes us happier at home, more successful at work, healthier in body and soul, more creative, and more compassionate. Ultimately, the book provides readers with a blueprint to rebuild their personal, emotional connection with water and to restore healthy waterways around the world.
“From first hearing about this at a board meeting years ago, to attending the BlueMind 3 Summit last year, to seeing the culmination of this concept in a book now, it’s been an honor to be on this journey into the Blue Mind with J,” said Laura Kasa, SOS Executive Director. “Whether you’re one of those few people who haven’t yet had the pleasure of meeting J or if you’ve heard him speak many times in the past, I encourage you all to come and hear about this fascinating topic. During the launch party, several ocean advocates—including Dan Haifley, Executive Director of O’Neill Sea Odyssey, Fred Keeley, Santa Cruz County Treasurer, and Hilary Bryant, Santa Cruz City Councilmember—will read their favorite sections of “Blue Mind,” and Nichols will discuss his work and sign books.
Guests will enjoy beverages and snacks from Ninkasi Brewing, Pizza My Heart, and Shopper’s Corner. This is a zero-waste event, so attendees are asked to bring beverage containers from home. Appetizers will be served on napkins. Klean Kanteen glasses will be available for a $20 donation to Save Our Shores.
Bookshop Santa Cruz will donate $1 to Billion Baby Turtles, an organization that works to protect sea turtle hatchlings across Latin America, for every copy of “Blue Mind” purchased through the night of the event.
